HELP & QUESTIONS (FAQ)

Health care

Everyone has the right to health care, even if you are uninsured. Are you an undocumented migrant and do you need medical care? Even if you do not have a legal residence permit, you are entitled to healthcare in the Netherlands.

For all non-urgent care, the point of contact is a general practitioner in your area of residence. Even if you are uninsured and/or undocumented, you have the right to register with a general practitioner in your area. Preferably register with the GP where your partner/friend/housemate is already registered.

Is the GP full? Then you look for another nearest GP. Costs: the GP will ask you if you can contribute to the costs of care. If you have this opportunity, please contribute. If you don’t have any money? Even then you are still entitled to care from your GP. If the GP refuses you care, you or the GP can contact us via info@Kruispost.nl

If you are unable to register with a regular GP, you can come to Kruispost. If you live outside Amsterdam, go to the GP near the home you most often stay or contact the Red Cross WhatsApp line +31(0) 6 14458781. And ask for assistance in finding a GP.

In case of emergency you can go to any hospital or call 112 for an ambulance on the spot. If in doubt call your General Practitioner or the Centrale Huisartsenpost / Central Family Doctors’ service: After 17.00 and at the weekend 088-0030600.

Yes, you can go to a dentist but patients over 18 years of age have to pay themselves. At Kruispost we provide dentalcare for € 5 – € 10, based on a voluntary contribution. For more information click here

If there has been a referral to a specialist you have a right to an appointment and treatment.  Check here what you need to know before you go to the hospital. In Amsterdam the hospitals OLVG (East & West) and AMC, VuMC have contracts with CAK. In case of an emergency you can go to any hospital.

You can make an appointment with a midwife (when you are at least 3 months pregnant). If you cannot pay the bill the midwife can claim the costs back from CAK.

Yes, everyone has the right to essential medical care. So, you can make an appointment with a General Practioner (huisarts). If you can’t pay, the doctor can claim a reimbursement from  CAK..

Medical personnel are bound by professional confidentiality and may not give any information to the police or IND.

Take your prescription to one of the chemists which are contracted to CAK (there are 5 in Amsterdam, please check the link of the CAK website). They can claim the costs with the  CAK.

You can visit us at Kruispost, or send an email to info@Kruispost.nl if you need help finding a GP in Amsterdam. Do you live outside Amsterdam? Please contact the Red Cross WhatsApp line +31(0) 6 14458781.
